CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct 19, 2026 - NASA has published a composite image of galaxy NGC 1385 assembled from observation data captured by the Hubble, James Webb and Chandra X-ray space telescopes [1]. An accompanying audio visualisation has been produced using the combined Hubble and Chandra components of this image [2]. The project was executed by a NASA expert team in collaboration with the Chandra X-ray Center and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The work was curated by K. Arcand, M. Russo and A. Santaguida [3]. Impact Insight. Composite astronomical images combine measurements across separate wavelengths of light to show structures and phenomena that would remain invisible to any single observatory. This same method of aligning and cross-calibrating data from multiple space instruments forms the core practice for characterising near-Earth objects, one of the foundational steps for planetary defence.
