Mara QuinnGood evening. This is Planetary Defense Daily, November eighth, twenty twenty-six. I'm joined at the desk by Eli Grant and Ada Hale. We start tonight with a new object found at the edge of the solar system.
Eli GrantThe Vera Rubin Observatory has announced a dwarf planet candidate. The object, designated 2026 ED138, was found in the outer solar system using precovery tools run by the Asteroid Institute.
Ada HaleBlue Origin is making New Glenn bigger. The company has added a third stage and reclassified the rocket as super heavy lift. The move expands its capacity for deep space and geostationary missions.
Mara QuinnOn to the Allen Telescope Array.
Eli GrantThe Allen Telescope Array has launched a four-year survey of the anti-solar point. Operating from Hat Creek Observatory, the radio astronomy effort will collect eleven petabytes of data over its run.
Ada HaleThe National Academies have identified four lunar sites beyond the south pole for future astronaut missions. Bhabha Crater, Mons Hadley, Orientale Basin and Aristarchus lead a NASA-requested report on crew destinations.
Eli GrantAnd a spectrum dispute is heating up between Washington and Brussels. The US is warning the EU that reserving the two gigahertz satellite band for European operators could mean retaliation against European firms.
Mara QuinnThat is tonight's front page. For Eli Grant and Ada Hale, I'm Mara Quinn. Stay safe out there, and keep watching the skies.
